District Clay is excited to announce we have formed the District Clay Educational Fund. Our new non-profit's mission is to implement our Community Clay! program, to further cultural and educational ceramic outreach in the DC area, and to support our resident artist program.
The core effort of the Fund is the Community Clay! program, which seeks to bring the joy of pottery to underserved youth in the Washington area. In partnership with DC public schools, the Community Clay! program has three components:
1) Training art teachers how to use ceramic equipment and employ new ceramic techniques.
2) Immersing District Clay teachers and artists into local schools to demonstrate new techniques to students.
3) Allow the youth of the community to visit the DCC for free classes in wheel throwing and hand building.
As we fund and grow this program, we will be looking for opportunities to expand to Montgomery County schools, charter schools, and the neighborhoods around District Clay.
