Online Handbuilding Design Course with Ara: LEARN TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUES, CREATE ELABORATE DESIGNS & MAKE SMALL TREASURES: 8 two hour sessions, Tues, 7-9pm, begins 12/8
In this online design course, resident artist Ara Koh will teach you how to make small-scale items using traditional handbuilding skills and to create sculptural decorations in the comfort of being in your home.
Student projects include making a jewelry box, a flower, a small planter, a toast rack, a mug, and a gravy boat.
Students will leave this class with new technical handbuilding and project design skills, while also making some very cool elaborate hand-built ware for their homes.
Previous experience working with clay not required.
Special note for beginning students: if you are new to clay and have not used ceramic glazes, you will need to sign up for a two hour glaze training session ($25) at District Clay.
Details: Eight sessions, 2 hours each, 7 from 9 pm: $320, max 12 students, begins 12/8. (12/8, 12/15, (no class on 12/22), 12/29, 1/5, 1/12, 1/19, 1/26, 2/2)
You Supply: basic loop trimming tools. You can also purchase a small loop trimming tool set from Amazon for $11 (need link).
District Clay Supplies: 25 lbs of stonewareclay plus bisque and glaze firing.
Zoom and Pick Up Details:
You will pick up clay at District Clay prior to your class start.
Prior to your first class, Ara will send you instructions for making simple tools and setting up your work area and how to sign into Zoom. (You will need to create a Zoom account if you do not have one.)
We will also send you instructions for dropping off work to be fired, glazing at District Clay and picking up work.
