Accumulate
with Jon McMillan RSVP: Show Opening & Artist Talk: Saturday, February 1, 6 PM Show Run: February 1 - March 1, 2025 This February, District Clay Center is excited to present Accumulate, a solo show by artist Jon McMillan. The exhibition explores the relationship between the natural and built environments. Speaking on his work, McMillan says: "While humans and the natural world are inherently connected, rapidly developing cultural shifts, technologies and industrial growth continue to divide our species from the rest of the planet. These pieces seek to explore the gray area that characterizes this relationship through the combination of disparate parts." |
Throwing and Altering
with Jon McMillan Sunday, February 16, 11 AM - 5 PM Join us to shape up your wheel-throwing! In this 6-hour workshop, ceramic artist and professor Jon McMillan will show how to use the potter’s wheel to create thrown and altered forms. In conjunction with Accumulate, his solo exhibition at District Clay Center, McMillan will demonstrate skills such as cutting, darting, stretching, and shaping thrown objects. By the end of the workshop, students will have practical knowledge in altering thrown forms, experience creating abstractions at the wheel, and their very own pouring vessel & small sculpture. |
FIGURE: Form + Surface
with Sergei Isupov April 26-27, 2025 In this weekend workshop with internationally renowned artist Sergei Isupov, students will learn how to build form and develop surfaces to create a portrait bust in clay. On Saturday, students will learn slab building and sculpting techniques for developing character and expression through facial features on a portrait bust. FIGURE: Form + Surface coincides with Isupov's solo exhibition at District Clay, Moments from Eternity. Learn more about the exhibition and free artist talks with Sergei on the exhibition page. |
