RAISING HELL
with HADRIAN MENDOZA
Sunday, September 24, 1-4:30 PM

In this 3.5-hour workshop, DCC instructor Hadrian Mendoza will guide students through practical techniques for increasing the height of your pots at the wheel. Starting with a cylinder, students will learn how to achieve taller forms with a more efficient use of clay. Hadrian will discuss concepts covering small details such as hand positioning, finger pressure, and hand and wheel speed.

By the end of the workshop, you'll have the technical tools for throwing taller, more efficient pots on the wheel, along with directions for getting out of raising hell.

SPECIAL Federal Holiday ONE SHOT!
10/9 10 AM - 12:30 PM

You get a wheel, clay, a nice instructor and 2.5 hours to try your hand at the pottery wheel. You may be mesmerized . . . or not. The wheel looks easy but it can seem to have a mind of its own. We do promise you'll have fun.

A bonus: if your One Shot! thrills you, you will get a 10% off your ten week session, email membership for details. If you don't, at least you got some mud on your hands. Never a bad thing.

Afghan Wheel Throwing
with Matin Malikzada
November 12, 10 AM - 4 PM

In this 6-hour workshop with master potter Matin Malikzada, you will learn traditional Istalifi ceramic techniques for throwing and decorating pottery on the wheel.

A master artist from Istalif, Afghanistan, Matin revitalized the traditional symmetrical designs and turquoise glazes characteristic of the region's unique ceramics. During the workshop, Matin will share his traditional techniques for throwing a large ruffled bowl and a tall-necked vase on the potter's wheel. Students will learn about surface decoration as Matin demonstrates his unique approach to creating symmetrical designs.

*After the workshop, Malikzada will give a free presentation on his artwork and life as a potter from Afghanistan to the United States.

 Online Paperclay
with Rebecca Hutchinson
November 18 - 20, 2023

We're excited. One of our most popular workshops is back!

During this online workshop, master ceramicist and teacher Rebecca Hutchinson will introduce you to the amazing and dynamic world of paper clay while also working with students to develop their personal creative voice. Using multiple paperclay elements, including found objects, you will create a personal sculptural piece while sharpening your conceptual approach. No previous clay experience is required.

Demonstrations will include mixed media preparation and ceramic building techniques (assemblage, casting, weaving, slip trailing and paperclay mache).
