Empty Bowls for Asheville
Saturday, November 2, 6-8:30 PM In early October, Asheville, NC was devastated by Hurricane Helene. Appalachia has long been home to potters, and Asheville itself is a major ceramics hub. The region is populated by dozens of high-profile clay artists and craft schools. Despite its high elevation, the region has seen many of these potteries flooded beyond imagination. These include institutions like Penland School of Craft and friends of the studio Akira Satake, John Britt, and more. In response to this disaster, DCC is hosting an Empty Bowls Sale on Saturday, November 2. Join us to browse dozens of handmade bowls and enjoy a free home-cooked meal. 100% of the bowls' proceeds will go to the Craft Emergency Relief Fund (CERF+), which provides grants for artists in the wake of emergencies and natural disasters. The night will be complete with live music, food, drinks, and community! Please RSVP if you can join us! |

DCC Acquires Leach Treadle Wheel!
District Clay Center is happy to acquire our first Leach treadle wheel for the studio. Located in our Big Wheel Room, the treadle wheel is a type of kick wheel that uses a lever to ease stress on your knee. Join DCC's Jon Kerr to learn how to operate our new pottery wheel - students and artists are welcome to use near the wedging table. See more of our videos at the DCC Youtube channel! |
Does this garbage fire feel relatable?
Give Raku a try! Discover the fire and drama of amazing raku with a firing by Joe Kim. An outside raku firing is the most exciting and dramatic of any ceramic firing technique and yields some of the most spectacular glaze effects in the ceramic repertoire. Bring up to 7 bisqued pots and transform them into raku masterpieces. (You must bring your own pots; no pots will be available for you to use at the firing.) District Clay is only able to bisque-fire pots for current students & DCC artists. New dates available for 9/22, 10/27, and 11/17. Sign up here! |
