Our Mission
District Clay Center strives to cultivate and promote the ceramic arts in the DMV region through quality education, exhibitions, and an extensive array of studio equipment. Our clay community embraces creativity, diversity, inclusion, respect, and a welcoming environment for students and artists of all levels.
To this end, District Clay currently provides regular instruction and specialized workshops in wheel-throwing, hand-building, slip-casting, and alternative firings; a library of ceramic literature; a community artist program; community events, including semi-annual sales; and exhibitions by regional students and artists.

More than just a studio, a school, or a shared workspace, our facility caters to a diverse community of artists at all skill levels. We have physical spaces for all of the different programs and for every type of ceramic artist. We not only offer the largest facility, we have a comprehensive set of tools to match. You will have access to every kind of rib, bat, and trim tool imaginable, as well as electric, gas and raku kilns. |
Our Amazing SpaceDistrict Clay Center is located in a 6,400 square foot studio with new amenities in a renovated building dedicated to arts and crafts.

Free StudioWe are one of the only studios that offers Free Time on Sunday afternoons for on-your-own practice. Plus, you are free to sit in on other classes at no charge.

Tools IncludedAll you need to bring to class is a towel - really. All the tools you will need are provided, as well as shelf space, glazes, and firing services.

The District Clay Gallery The District Clay Gallery holds several exhibitions a year featuring regional ceramic artists. Befitting a gallery in our nation's capital, at least two of our yearly exhibitions highlight important political and social issues. |
Community Clay Program Our newest program, Community Clay, is developing an outreach program so that we can bring ceramics to underserved youth in the DC metropolitan area. |
