Into the Abyss: Decorative Discoveries from the Deep with Nicole Ponce RSVP: Show Opening & Artist Talk: Saturday, April 6, 6 PM Show Run: April 6 - May 3, 2024 "Intricately designed exoskeleton; delicate baleen structures; a decorative cord with rounded beads; raw exposed clay next to colorful glazes highlighting detailed surfaces and textures. These are the elements that bind and give these creatures life. Long ago, they once lived where the light shined, but they longed for the comfort of solitude the abyss had to offer, so they began their slow descent into the darkest places in the ocean." - Nicole Ponce |

Earth and Fire: Wood-firing with Ken Matsuzaki and Noah Hughey-Commers May 28-31, 2024 Join us to learn master wood-firing techniques! The wood-firing portion of the workshop will take place from May 28-31 at Muddy Creek Pottery in central Virginia. At the kiln site, students will work with Ken, Noah, and Muddy Creek's firing team to complete a 4-day wood-firing. This traditional firing method involves manually firing a kiln with wood as the source of fuel. Ken's unique firing methods involve using pine charcoal at the end of the firing for dramatic surface results. As student assistants, participants in the workshop will complete 14 hours of firing as they learn how the kiln works, what's happening inside, and how the firing itself can change the finished results of their work. |
